Sweet Stampin' ~ Halloween Bingo

Hey there crafty pals. It's time for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin' and this time, we're getting in the Halloween mood, with a fun Halloween Bingo. I created a fun Kinetic card for this challenge. Just a little something I concocted with what I had on hand. I had been making a kinetic card for another challenge when I created this, so I was all about the moving and shaking and I even made a little video to show you the action of the wee spider.

I used the top line of the bingo board for my creation. Dress Up, Bat, Magic, but the diagonal line Dress Up, Sentiment, Black works too! I'm using the 'magic' bit loosely, as I think my moving spider is a bit magic, but you might interpret the theme to be wands, wizards and cauldrons etc for the magic section. As always, half the fun of these challenges is in the interpretation. My awesome image is of course from the talented pen of Krista Smith of Saturated Canary and is called Frankenbatty. This was a first attempt at copic colouring with green!

Because this is a kinetic card, I thought it would be fun to show you the wee spider in action. I realised after creating him though, that I ought to have 'weighted' him slightly to make the slider action smoother and for him to glide up and down in a more fluid action. Perhaps a little magnet would have worked to add that weight. I'll know for next time and we learn through trial and error don't we?! Do turn the sound up to listen, as I recorded it with the sound down too far! Hehe, more trial and error.

The cute little spider was created with a Doodlebug Designs 'Mini Doodle-Pops' set called Spidies. It is a symmetrical spider, so I was able to use two back to back running the string between. Which meant it didn't matter if the spider turned during the kinetic action. I made the slider with a bit of acetate and created a channel between the cardstock layers with foam. I cut down an old slippy plastic bag for the acetate to run between, so it would have a smooth gliding action. This card was so much fun to create and I really enjoyed the process of working out how to put the slider together and what would make it work well. I think other than not weighting the spider enough, I came up with a really clever and fun design.

The cool steampunk corner (because I couldn't find my spider's web die at the time) is cut down to fit from an old SCACD Steampunk Corner Die. The '3' was in the original design, I cut the '1' from another part of the design and glued it by the 3 so it read '31' which is of course Halloween night in October. I thought this was kinda fun to tie in the Halloween theme. The 'Spooky' die is from Lil' Inkers. I have had this die for a while and really wanted to use it. So I snuck it into the design here and I love how it looks. One of my siblings who saw it suggested the O's in the design looked a bit like the top of her dress. I thought that was a fun interpretation, so I'll take that. I loved colouring the eyes. I used my Promarkers for this as my Copic palette is limited. I could get lost in those lavender eyes, aren't they pretty!

Little else remains to be said, other than to invite you to come and join in this super fun 'Halloween Bingo' challenge with us. Do come and share your crafty Halloween adventures with us. I think it's a pretty easy Bingo board and there's plenty of scope for interpretation. I look forward to seeing what you'll create. Do check out what my awesomely talented teamies have been up to on the blog too while you're there. I'll be back again before long, with my next crafty adventure. In the meantime, have a fabulous weekend and enjoy your own crafty adventures. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Word Art

Gosh, this week is flying past! We're on Spring Break here in New Zealand, and we've had a lovely road trip down to mine and hubbies home town to visit his parents. We celebrated his dad's birthday and visited special friends and family which included Greg's nana who will be 103 in a few weeks! A bit of a whirlwind trip and in the bustle I've managed to fall behind with my DT make this week. Thankfully, I had watercoloured this sweet image previously, so a quick CAS card was pulled together and now I'm sorted.

Our challenge at Fab 'n' Funky this week is to use images that include word art. The lovely image I used is from our fabulous sponsor Bugaboo and is called Day After Forever from their Love Blocks range. This pretty silhouette has the loveliest word art sentiment, so this will be going to my mummy. I can't wait until she's home in the new year. It's been too long with her away playing Nanny extraordinaire to my sweet niece and nephew. But we can't wait to have her home from the US again. She's been the quintessential 'Fairy Godmother' for those sweet babes and I know my sis' will miss her like crazy when she comes home. But boy we've missed her too! So this sweet image seemed like a good fit to me to send to my lovely mummy with some news of home.

I matted the image with a piece of pale pink cardstock which was left over from a previous creation. I decided not to use it for that one in the end, so I added to a really pretty card base for this creation, that has a pearlescent sheen to it. The edge of the pink cardstock I trimmed with a stitched scallop border die, which I think is Lawn Fawn, but I'll come back later to confirm. A very quick CAS design as I was so short of time this week, but don't you just love it when a CAS design does justice to the image perfectly!

I hope you'll come and join our fun this week with your own interpretation of this fun 'Word Art' challenge. There's plenty of scope and I can't wait to see what you'll create. Until next time, I'm off to have some couch time with hubby and see if another 'Designated Survivor' episode has popped up on Netflix. Loving that show! See you all again soon with another crafty adventure. Big hugs, Wends xoxo (No I haven't forgotten the candy, it's coming and you're gonna love it!)

Sweet Stampin' ~ Distressing

Hi there lovely blog buddies. I'm in our Hometown right now, visiting the 'outlaws', hehe, no, just kidding, my inlaws are the loveliest people you'd ever hope to meet. We are home, celebrating my father-in-laws birthday. I posted his birthday card earlier this week, but was reminded I've yet to post my hubbies birthday card from earlier this year. (Do you do that too, forget to post cards - for ages!) It's perfect for our challenge this weekend at Sweet Stampin' though, and as I'll be away for the weekend, I'm hoping Mr Blogger, will post this for me as scheduled. It's another easy peasy fun theme this challenge. We just want to see you a little distressed, okay, no, not you, your card! Ink, paint, scissored edges, whatever you interpret the theme to be, we want to see your distressed creations. Just remember that at Sweet Stampin', we are all about the 'stamping', so make sure you've some stamping or a digital image you've hand coloured, to be eligible for our Top 3 honours.

I had so much fun with these ridiculously cute, grumpy characters from Taylored Expressions. This set is called Party Grumplings. They were perfect to tease my hubby with this year. He's not liking the whole 'aging' thing, so I made him this card as a gentle ribbing. He actually LOVED it and totally took the humour well. (It was totally a heart in mouth moment when I gave it to him!)

I tried something different with this card, mixing some messy watercolour with direct stamping. I don't know what I was trying to achieve with the 'sun-circle' background, I was just playing. I masked a circle then added some generous splatters. I really like how it came out and wanted to stamp the grumplings over it. So I stamped the first two, then masked them off to add the 'reluctant party grumpling' who was trailing behind in the middle.

They looked great just in the black ink, but I decided to add some details, sparsely, for a little more definition. So I coloured their tummies with my Promarkers, in different shades of warm greys, added colour and then some sparkle with Wink of Stella to the present, cupcake, balloon and their noses. I added some white pen over the white of the eyes for the two that had defined eyes, as the orange looked wrong there. In hindsight, I should have then used a black pen to added the pupil back in the centre, of the middle grumpling.

My finishing touch was to tie in the fun colours from the bright paper I'd used by adding three enamel dots in coordinating colours. All the paper edges were distressed with scissors which of course made this card perfect for this challenge.

I hope you'll come and join us this week for our fun 'Distressing' challenge at Sweet Stampin', I'd love to see where that theme would take you. Do pop into the blog and check out my talented teamies awesome creations. I'll be back from my hometown in a few days, in the meantime, have an awesome weekend and enjoy your own crafty adventures. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Southern Girls ~ Stripes

Hey there lovely crafty pals. I have a cute make to share with you today for our newest Southern Girls challenge. We are having a 'Stripes' challenge this fortnight and check out how cute this sweet Gerda Steiner image is! Krafter's Cart and Sasayaki Glitter are our lovely sponsors this time, so I've worked with some lovely ranges that Krafter's Cart stock. Here's my Autumnal creation with his cute 'Striped' Harry Potter scarf. Easy peasy huh? I think this might be a fun take on the challenge. But you can use striped paper, stamping or details on your image, whatever inspires you!

I started my creation with a gorgeous background stamp from Impression Obsession. It's using one of their 'Cover A Card' background stamps. This one is called 'Funky'. Krafter's Cart have a lovely range of IO Stamps. I used Versamark on Kraft card to create a 'watermark' effect stamp background, just to add a little interest around the frame of my image. But this shot below shows you the full beauty of this gorgeous stamp.

Krafter's Cart also have a lovely range of Gerda Steiner stamps sets in stock. I used the cute Cold Hedgehog for my creation, which I wanted to add a Harry Potter scarf to, just for fun, which was the perfect way to tie in our 'Stripes' theme this challenge. I think this lil' guy is super cute. He was really fun to colour too. I used a lovely word die from WPlus9 for the sentiment, from their Basic Greetings die set. I added a little Wink of Stella too for a touch of sparkle. The frame and 'autumn' word die are from two lovely CC Designs die sets. Make A Card #13 and Make A Card #9

I used my new copic pens to colour this cute hedgie. Which I bought so that I could do some tutorials to advance my colouring skills. I have always loved my Promarkers, but there are not a lot of classes or tutorials out there which use this medium, so I splashed out on a few copics. I've always been a diehard Promarker fan and I'm definitely not getting rid of them, but I have had fun doing these tutorials and playing with the softer brush tip of the copic markers. I don't want to spend hours perfecting colouring techniques, as I just craft for fun and relaxation, so I don't want one image to take me days to finish! But, I am enjoying having a bit more of a clue about shading and blending with copics. I've still lots of practice to do, but soon I'll share one of my tutorial pieces, as I'm about to make it up into a card.

Do head on over to our 'Stripes' challenge and see what the rest of our awesome DT got up to for this challenge. They've got some fab inspiration for you. It's such a fun and easy challenge theme, we hope you'll have a go too. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure, but in the meantime, have an awesome week and watch this space for my soon to follow blog candy. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Fall Colours

Hey there lovely crafty peeps, I'm flying in today with a DT creation for Fab 'n' Funky. We are having a 'Fall Colours' challenge. I LOVE Autumn. Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons, so this is pure joy for me, creating for this season. We are being sponsored by DigiStamps4Joy this week and were given some lovely images to create with. I love owls, so when I saw this sweet image, I wanted to colour it up as a lovely brown owl. I found a fab photo to work from as inspiration.

I used copics to colour this picture, all with the exception of one Promarker in Pumpkin colour, to bridge the gap between the orange shades of copics I had. They actually work together incredibly well. I coloured the sky background using a technique that I learnt from Mindy Baxter. I did a fun tutorial of hers recently where she taught colouring the sky using copics. It's not so obvious here, but there's a soft gradient that fades towards the top.

This is my inspiration pic. I think he's beautiful!
(I wasn't brave enough to try and leave white feathers!)

I used some absolutely beautiful paper from Maja Design called 'Walk In The Forest'. I've had this for so long and have really wanted to craft with it, so it sprang to mind when I knew I had to do an Autumn creation and I love the way it works with this image. It's a shame to cover this beautiful paper, so I kept my embellishments to a minimum.

The sun was behind a cloud for this pic, so the colours are a bit washed out. But you can see the finished card design, which I added some feathers to and a couple of diecut acorns which I coloured with my copics. The acorns are from a lovely CC Designs set called Make A Card #9 ~ Autumn, which I bought recently in their amazing sale.

Here's a closer look at the feathers and acorns.

Come and have a go this week with your own 'Fall Colours' creations. We always love to see what you create. While you're there, check out my fabulous teamies awesomely inspirational creations. They've come up with some really wonderful designs this week. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Until then, have an awesome week. I'm off to Georgie's school performance. Two big nights for my girlie this week. She'll be knackered after. But it's Spring break next week, so whoop whoop, we all get to catch our breaths for a bit! Huge hugs, Wends xoxo

Sweet Stampin' ~ Cute & Cuddly

Hey there lovely crafty pals. It's been a full and busy week for me, so I'm racing in late with my DT post for Sweet Stampin'. We have a great challenge for you this week. We want to see your 'cute & cuddly' creations. How sweet is that?!! I couldn't decide what to do at first, I had a baby card that I thought was pretty cute and cuddly, but at the last minute decided to go for this snuggly monster make. Doesn't this big guy remind you a little of Sully from Monster's Inc? I wanted to colour him up that way, but he wanted to be purple, so purple it is!

Inspired by Sully's blue, I used aqua as the accent colour. I think it works a treat. I used my Promarkers for this creation as I've not many 'colours' in my copics yet. (I'm having guilts over leaving my Promarkers, as I have always so loved them, but I'm having fun trying the hair and skin colours with my copics.) Her hair was done with copics. I love the darker shades in the copics, which I don't have in my Promarkers. Really dark hair was always a challenge previously and this card was made for one of my bestie's little girls, so the hair needed to be dark brown.

PicMonkey has just decided it wants to charge for all editing, so I only have a couple of pics today, as I need to find a new editing suite. Something I can easily add my watermark from and lighten the watermark too, as I was made a really gorgeous one by one of my lovely blog buddies Janine, but I need to be able to lighten it when using it over an image. So any advice about free editing suites that you rate, would be really welcome!

The sweet image is of course Stamping Bella from the Tiny Townie Collection and is called Dorothy The Dreamer. I have wanted this stamp for so long and I think it's going to get lots of use! I'm keen to try some different colour combo's. I paper-pieced the pillow on my card to be a lilac gingham and I love how that turned out. I used a die for the gingham mat that was from a Magnolia Doohickey Club set and the little heart trimmed tag was also. It's from the Baby set called Sweat Pea, Volume 13. The cool sentiment I used on the card comes from another Stamping Bella set called Rebecca Loves To Read from their Uptown Girls Collection.

I hope you'll pop on over to Sweet Stampin' and join in the challenge with us. While you're there, check out the awesome inspiration from the rest of the DT too, they're a madly talented bunch and I always leave inspired after checking out my DT pals creations. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure, but right now, I need some chill time with my hubby. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Fab 'n' Funky ~ For A Friend

Hey there lovely crafty pals. I have to sneak this post up tonight without much fuss, as I don't want my lil' sis to see, because it's not quite yet her birthday! It's time for a new challenge at Fab 'n' Funky and our Northern Hemisphere DT have had a wonderful Summer break, but we're ready to get back into the swing of things now. So we're starting back with an easy and lovely challenge theme 'For A Friend'.

I have six siblings and we're all very close, so it was a no brainer to combine this challenge theme with my darling baby sister's birthday card! This is a big birthday for my baby sis. She's just had her second child and is turning 30, so we're making a bit of a fuss of our 'Cali Girl'. She's been living in the US for the past few years with her hubby and they now have two kiddies. They have made a home just outside of San Diego in the State of California. So when I knew we were being sponsored by Crafts and Me, I immediately thought of Hannah Lynn's lovely image 'Cali Girl'. She looks a bit like my baby sis with that long flowing hair. So I did my best to colour her up to look like my baby sis and I'm really pleased with the result. This is my first attempt at a 'Copic Coloured' image.

Our Becky is a girlie girl and loves pink, so of course I opted for lots of pink and soft pretty embellishments. I've had the La La Land Lanterns die for a while and was yet to use it, so it was fab to work those into this card design. I wanted it to look like pretty party lanterns hanging from cherry blossoms. The die I used for the cherry blossoms is a Joanna Sheen die. I added Wink of Stella to the lanterns, so they would sparkle when they catch the light.

The beautiful lace is some of my Live & Love Crafts stash, I'm still so sad that Sandy closed her store, it really was my favourite 'online' craft store. I used a gorgeous piece of guipure lace and also a soft cream faux hessian ribbon behind it, which I frayed the edges of, to stick out around the pink cardboard panel I backed the lace with.

Of course, big birthdays need to be recognised, so I added a '30' cut from Ranger Glitter Cardstock. It's much sparklier when it catches the light. The final touch was to dress the inside of the card and add the sentiment. I used another corner of the 12x12 cardstock I had cut the beige paper for the front of the card from, to mat the sentiment circle. The pink paper is the reverse side of Riddersholm Designs - Bello Pastello, 0066 and the beige paper used on the front and inside is Riddersholm Designs - Fleamarket, Stains. Danish company, Riddersholm Designs made such beautiful shabby chic paper designs, it's sad to see yet another craft company that has come to a close.

So that's my baby sister's 30th birthday card and as I'm lucky to call all my sisters my friends, this fit the theme for our first challenge back from British Summer 'For A Friend' theme perfectly. I hope you'll come and play along with us and show us your lovely 'For A Friend' creations. It's always so inspiring to see how others interpret the theme.

Pop on over to the Fab 'n' Funky challenge blog to see what my teamies have been up to, you are going to be blown away! I love the range of images at Crafts & Me and we are so lucky to have them as our sponsor this week. It'll be one very lucky winner, so be in to win! I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure and of course, that candy I've been promising! Hugs to you all until then and Happy 30th Birthday to my precious baby sister in a few days time!! Happy Birthday also to my twin cousins Beth & Ellie who actually have their birthday today. Wends xoxo

If you made it all the way to the bottom of this post, here's a pic of my beautiful sister Becky with her sweet baby girl on one of the Californian beaches near her home. You can see why I thought the Hannah Lynn 'Cali Girl' image was perfect for her right?!
